Finding Calm Within: Acupressure Points for Anxiousness
According to Chinese medicine, anxiousness can arise due to imbalances in the body's energy, particularly within the meridians and organs associated with emotional well-being. Understanding the underlying causes can help us address stress and anger, promoting a sense of calm using acupressure points such as Liver-3 and Pericardium-6.
Anxiousness in Chinese medicine is often attributed to imbalances in the Liver and Pericardium meridians. The Liver is responsible for regulating the smooth flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body, while the Pericardium plays a vital role in protecting the heart and managing emotional responses.
Liver-3, also known as Taichong, is a significant acupressure point for addressing anxiousness. It is located on the top of the foot, between the big toe and the second toe. Stimulating this point can help soothe Liver Qi stagnation, reduce irritability, and promote emotional balance.
Pericardium-6, also called Neiguan, is another valuable acupressure point for addressing emotional disturbances. It is found on the inner forearm, about three finger-widths above the wrist crease. Stimulating this point can help regulate the flow of Qi in the chest, alleviate stress, and promote a sense of calm.
To address anxiousness and promote emotional balance using acupressure points Liver-3 and Pericardium-6, follow these steps:
Find a quiet and comfortable space to relax.
Locate Liver-3 on the top of your foot, between the big toe and the second toe.
Apply firm but comfortable pressure to Liver-3 using your thumb or index finger. Hold or apply a circular motion for about 1-2 minutes.
Next, locate Pericardium-6 on the inner forearm, about three finger-widths above the wrist crease.
Apply firm but gentle pressure to Pericardium-6 using your thumb or index finger. Hold or use a circular motion for about 1-2 minutes.
Breathe deeply and focus on releasing stress and anger as you stimulate these points.
Remember to adjust the pressure to a level that feels comfortable for you, and if you experience any pain, reduce the intensity.
Practice these techniques whenever you feel anxious or overwhelmed to promote emotional balance and a sense of calm.
By stimulating these acupressure points, you aim to harmonize the energy flow, reduce stress, and restore balance within the associated meridians and organs. However, it's important to note that everyone's response to acupressure can vary.
